The mission
of the Summit County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is to establish
teams of local volunteer medical and public health professionals
who can contribute their skills and expertise throughout the year
as well as during times of community need.
|
|
What
is the Summit County MRC? |
The Summit County MRC is a volunteer group that brings health care
professionals and others together to support local public health,
emergency and medical services. As the events of September 11th unfolded,
many Americans reacted by offering to help. In order to provide the
rapid response needed in a disaster, volunteers must be trained and
organized. A key function of the MRC is to provide members with specialized
training and preparation. |
|
Who
is eligible to join the MRC? |
We are looking for licensed medical and non-medical
professionals as well as people with other special skills who can
provide basic support services during both emergency and non-emergency
events. This includes, but is not limited to, licensed medical professionals,
non-licensed volunteers with medical backgrounds, mental health professionals,
clergy, public health professionals, emergency medical technicians,
health educators and volunteers with other specialties.
Everyone can
help! |

What
training do I need to become an MRC volunteer? |
Newly
registered MRC volunteers are required to complete 4 hours of
approved training, which will be provided
by the MRC unit. Training is valid for three years. Upon completion
of the third year as a registered volunteer,
the volunteer
must satisfactorily complete an updated or "refresher"
state-approved
training course. Available trainings will be posted on this page and
can be accessed by clicking the Trainings link to the left.

Is
there liability protection available for MRC volunteers? |
Yes.
Ohio Revised Code 121.404 provides liability protection to registered
Ohio Citizen Corps volunteers (which includes Ohio MRC volunteers)
during local, state or federally-declared emergencies, disasters,
drills and trainings. The statute also exempts a registered volunteer's
personal information in the Ohio Citizen Corps database from public
disclosure. It is critical that the registration process be completed
in its entirety to be eligible for liability protection.

Volunteer
To Make A Difference! |
When you sign up for the MRC, you become an identified professional
resource and may be contacted when an emergency occurs. If you
choose to assist, you will be notified when and where to respond.
You will
be helping during a time of greatest need.
During times of non-emergency,
you may be contacted to assist with other public health events
where your services would be helpful such as emergency preparedness
drills and exercises. These opportunities will be posted on this
page and can be accessed by clicking the Exercises/Drills link
to the left.
However you choose to
help, you will be making a difference in your community.
Thank you!
